As if you didn’t have enough on your plate already, spring can add an additional distraction that can make it difficult for you to buckle down and study. Whatever your area of study is, whether you’re taking web development courses or paralegal courses, you’re bound to find yourself yearning for the sun.

Decide what you need to do before getting to work
While this may seem obvious, you would be amazed by the number of students who bypass this step and study without a clear goal in mind, later interrupting their study session at an arbitrary point. If you want to study smartly and save time, establish your intentions before sitting down. You might decide, for example, that you need to cover the material in chapters 3 and 4 tonight and 5 and 6 the following night. You can even write out those intentions, breaking down what you need to cover in bullet points, then crossing them out as you go. This will help you focus and feel in control of your studies. This technique works regardless of your area of study, whether you’re majoring in business or receiving training from medical office assistant colleges. It also prevents you from feeling anxious about having too much material to cover, since you’re breaking everything down into smaller chunks.
Study in the Shade
Reading a book under a tree or sitting on a porch can be very relaxing and the fresh air is beneficial to brain functions. When we are relaxed, our mind absorbs the information that we are receiving more easily. While you may consider locking yourself indoors until your exam period is over, a little bit of sun can actually be beneficial for your studies. If you try studying outdoors, just make sure to pick a calm, peaceful spot where you can have some privacy and concentrate. Studying doesn’t have to be a lonely ordeal with four walls and silence! You can even invite a friend who’s taking the same course for a study session, which may motivate you to cover more material.
Stay ahead of the pressure of your exams by taking good care of yourself and taking the time you need to study, sleep, move and eat in a way that supports your success. Avoid using caffeine or energy drinks to stay awake, or alcohol to promote sleepiness when it’s time to lie down for the night. These substances disrupt sleep and can leave you feeling even more tired the next day. This can affect your concentration during study and exam time. Make sure you still get some exercise, as it will help you focus. If you’re studying indoors, a well-timed pause to go outside for a walk can do wonders for your energy levels and ability to concentrate. Moreover, being outside in the sun can have a very positive effect on your mood. Lastly, choose foods that contain proteins, like fish or eggs, instead of relying on snacks or junk food.
